  1. Vet is pretty much the only horse-related career you need college for. Otherwise, you can be a horse trainer, breeder, or jockey, none of which require more than a high school degree, if that, and some specialized training they don't offer at college.
  2. Check out meredithmanor.com. My daughter attends Meredith Manor. It's a great school which is in Waverly WV. They teach hands on horse training, teaching riding, a farrier course, etc. My daughter is graduating this quarter and to date is juggling at least three job offers for when she is done it June.
  3. Actually, if you want to become a breeder at a top farm you do require a college education. You learn bloodlines, specific breeding for confirmation etc. You could also be a farrier, they are in high demand. A few great colleges to check out are North Dakota State University and Old College in Calgary, Alberta (excellent course selection for horse crazy people). If you do a general search on the web for an equine sciences course this will give you several different options
  4. Well this is what I'm planning on doing. First of all, if you want to be a horse trainer, you can just call yourself one, but it looks better on your resume if you become a certified trainer. (that's what I'm going to do) Also, you can major in equine science which is just overall horses. I also suggest you do take a few vet classes so you are able to know the basics. If you are planning on running your own barn, i would also take a few business classes, and accounting classes just to familiarize your self with running a business, and finances. Some other horse jobs include, breeding, instructing, maybe a rescue place, or therapeutic riding. Or you can do a mixture of all of them. And during your summer, i would also go to a barn and work beside an instructor, or trainer to pick up on some of there procedures. here's a link to help you with what degree you want. http://equisearch.com/education/college021003/ Good luck!! hope all your dreams come true!
