4. Check your local paper or www.petfinder.com ~~~ depending on where you live they might have adoptable horses in your area. Otherwise, if you live out west (USA), there are some Pony of the Americas and Mustang adoption services. A lot of the adoption horses can't be ridden, though and some rescues have very high standards (and rightfully so). If you're looking to ride, find a broker or a breeder. Some places have reasonable 'trail horses' (not show animals) for sale that range $2K-3K or so. Always have the animal vet checked, though. Unscruplous sellers could try to get rid of a sick or lame horse. Good luck.
