Hippotherapy

where can I donate a healthy older TB broodmare for tax deduction?

Mare is 22y/o, gentle, & would make a great co-therapist for an equine assisted psychotherapy program. She is a former stakes winner w/ Seattle Slew on top & Native Dancer on bottom. She could also probably breed again but I don't have the $ to tie up in that.

  1. Try to find an organization that accepts horses. I don't know of any specifically, but I'm sure they must be out the on the internet.
  2. Here is one place...they might be able to help you find another within local proximity if you aren't with them. Equistrides at (860) 844-0342
  3. You have a couple options. 1) Find a non-profit organization that needs horses and give them the horse. Probably not very many of those so this would be the most difficult. You will be able to deduct whatever the fair market value of the horse is at the time of donation. 2) Sell the horse and give the money to the non-profit organization of your choice. This requires you to take the time to find a buyer and sell the horse. You get to deduct whatever amount you give to the non-profit 3) Give the horse to the non-profit organization and let them sell it. This is the easiest for you as the hassle of selling falls to the non-profit. However, you will only be able to deduct whatever the non-profit sells the horse for which will most likely be less than what you would sell it for. Option 1 would be the most difficult but will most likely yeild the largest deduction, option 3 would be the easiest but will give the smallest deduction.
