  1. I think the government handles a lot of that kind of thing...
  2. have you tried the local animal rescue?
  3. Some sites are horsetopia.com and equine.com
  4. well if you are thinking of cheap and a good horse you are asking for a miracle especially if you want it to already know the pattern. you are better off spending some money for a descent trained horse and then forking over some cash for some barrel training also if you go to shows there are always the girls that are winning ask one of them to train the horse for a pattern they wont be as expensive for training. cheap and good usually dont go well together for horses
  5. This is a good horse rescue here in Texas www.lser.org But, I agree. You are not going to get "good with kids & cheap & trained". There is always a market for really well trained horses. Horses like you are wanting are snapped up quick and usually for the money the owner wants. Good solid barrel horses go for about $7500 and up. And this is usally one that a beginner can ride. The faster and the better, the higher the price. If a horse is cheap, there is a reason, and it is usually someone wanting to dump a problem horse. My reaoning is this. You would not allow your children to ride in a car with no brakes, so why would you want to put them on a 1000 lb. animal that could hurt or kill them, if they are not properly trained. Just to save a few bucks? When you have to pay a huge medical bill, your "cheap horse" is not so cheap anymore.
  6. Go to www.dreamhorse.com Once your there, click search at the very top of the page (not advanced search)then fill out the search criteria. You can fill out all sorts of things like state, age, height, weight, skill, price, temperament from 1-10, etc. It's really helpful, I've bought a few horses from there and know a lot of people who have too. Just a tip though, make sure you always go try out a horse before you buy them, not every body is honest about a horse they're trying to sell. There's nothing more annoying than buying a horse and realizing it's lame as soon as it arrives! (that didn't happen to me but I have driven 2-3 hours to look at a horse only to discover it was lame, what a waste of time!) I hope this helps, good luck!
  7. Here are some sites for you to check out. www.horsetopia.com www.horsecity.com www.equine.com www.equinehits.com www.agdirect.com www.dreamhorse.com also try- www.ABHA.com
  8. try horsetopia.com
  9. LSER (lone star equine rescue) - LSER.org Petfiner.com agdirect.com dreamhorse.com <-- (Where I found my horse)
  10. There is a nice rescue in Dayton, Texas that screens the horses and ride them daily to find out how much training the horse has and what level of rider can ride the horse. They seem really informative and will help you find the horse that fits you. They come in different groups. The really nice registered horses that are well trained are more expensive but they do have some cheaper rescue type horses. The site is www.texashorse.org Try that and I hope you find a good horse! Good Luck!
