How to become a professional show jumper?

where do you have to start? I am an advanced rider and was just curious about how you would go about doing this? I was also wondering what you have to do and/or where you have to go to become a certified horse-bac riding instructor. Thank you!

  1. To become a professional show jumper , you really need to start in junior level. You need masses of cash to buy the very best jumping ponies and affiliate them to the BSJA. You also need a trainer (a good one at that) you will qualify to jump at all the top shows. From juniors you will need to move to seniors. Again. big time cash for the right horses. You need to get noticed by the sponsors or else fork out all your own money. To become a qualified riding instructor, join the BHS and register as a pupil at a recognized training centre.
  2. Well you would need to compete at a very high level of jumping this is difficult because you need good (which is usually expensive) horses to do really well, you need sponsors/ owners to help with the cost of the horses and to get sponsors you need to do well! Compete at the highest level you can and hope you get lucky! The other way is to get a job as a groom at a show jumpers yard. But the thing is you will need to prove to the owner that you are good enough to work there, better than everyone else because places are very difficult to get at good yards! Even if you do get a job there it won't be guarantied that you get to ride at the horses at home let alone at competitions! The best way to get into the world of showjumping is hard work, dedication and a a lot of luck!
  3. OK, first, ride without stirrups every time you ride for five minuets each time, walking does not count. When riding without stirrups, sit the trot, post the trot, and canter, you can even try to to-point. Riding without stirrups will help improve your leg muscles and will make jumping easier. You can also try to ride in two-point at the walk, trot, and canter to make your jump position better and stronger. Then, you can enter into local shows. Enter in a lot of the jumping courses. Once you have aced all the local shows, you can move on to A shows. A shows are more advanced, more complicated, and way more expensive! But there worth it in the end. After the A shows, move on to state shows. They too are more advanced, complected, and much more expensive! Then you can go to international competitions. Very advanced, complected, and very expensive! They can keep going to like USA finals and stuff. But the shows above are the basic shows. To become a teacher, you should get to State or International competitions if you want to take your teaching to a high level. I too want to professional show jumper and trainer some day, and that is what my trainer said to me about becoming one. Good luck with every thing! Hope this helps!
  4. Good luck...I think that is every hunter/jumper girl's dream, yet only a few actually make it. The key is money. If you can buy the horses to help you make it to those high level circuits, you might have a chance. But even then there is no guarantee. I don't mean to sound rude but that is the reality of it. I had to eventually get a real job that has nothing to do with horses :(
