What does professional training for a green horse cost?
Saddle broke, submissive personality Irish Sport Horse. Rising 6 mare. Just a ball park price per month including board. Thanks.

- The latest I've heard is $560/month. It used to be about $400/month. When I was training a lot, I only charged $400 for 30 rides. That way, they actually got what they were paying for, if I missed a day or two riding.
- Wow...I have never seen a green horse except in old Rainbow Brite cartoons with my daughter years ago. I guess training is the same as a brown or tan horse.
- Depends on the area you are in. Where I'm at in NC, full training board can range from $350-$650 a month. But just a few miles away in the Southern Pines area, the price goes way up. They have a lot of Olympic level trainers there and the area is well known for their horses so training board around there ranges from $600-$1500 a month, and can even go up from there.
- I live in Central Arkansas. Prices around here start at $400/month for training and $200+/month for boarding. And that's 24/7 pasture with run-in shelter.
- It totally depends on where you take your horse to be trained. You might even find non-professional that is a strong rider to get your horse at least goind steady at the w/t/c. I used to school other people's greenies for free. Unless your horse calls for a lot of serious, professional work, you might be able to find someone to school your horse at your stables. My only word of caution is that you find a rider that you know well and a rider that has a good "track record." Also, more importantly, make sure you have that rider sign a waiver.
- I am assuming you mean english- training is about $300-$500/month depending on the level of experience you want from your trainer. A month usually consists of M thru F rides. As for board- some trainers include board in their price. If they travel to your barn, board is free, if they are at a facility owned by others, board is around $300ish here, but it is cheaper in the Midwest than on either coast. It honestly just depends trainer to trainer. Expect to pay total somewhere between $600-$800 if in the midwest.
- Here in California I charge $450 a month for 5 rides per week for a green horse already started undersaddle. It is $550 a month (generally only the first month) if I need to introduce ground work and a saddle. Board is an extra $150-$350. Usually if a green horse is submissive and easy to work with the price stays $450 but in my training contract it states that if a horse becomes dangerous to handle or comes to me as a problem horse, I have the right to increase the cost but this rarely occurs. Cost highly depends on your area and the quality of trainers available. You are making an excellent choice in searching for professional assistance!
- Depends on the trainer's experience and level of training. I have been training for quite a few years, but I am just now getting into the business. I only charge $200 - $250 per month. That includes board and feed. The going rate here in WI is about $475 a month. But again, it all depends on the level of training and the particular trainer.
- Depends on the trainer. Anywhere from $350-1500 per month. My husband is a trainer.
