How can i wash out my horses tail when its like 30-50 degrees outside?

Its REALLY cold up here and my horses tail is nasty. I have shampoo and anything needed to wash out his tail but its like 45 degrees!! Its way to cold to give him a shower!!! His tail is disgusting and I really wanna make it look nice!!! Can anyone tell me the step by step way to wash out his tail without making him all wet and cold?

  1. nope
  2. Wash the bottom of the tail as usual, right up to the bottom of his dock where he has feeling. Then you could steam the top of his tail with a hot, damp towel (not too hot!). Put this on top of the area you want cleaning, it works a bit like a sauna. It will still get him wet but not as much and not as cold as hosing the tail, (can't use shampoo on the top of the tail though!) Dry the bottom of the tail by swinging it to get the loose water off, then use a towel. I also use a hairdryer on my horse's legs when I wash mud off them, just get your horse used to it first and don't get the skin too hot. Hope this helps :)
  3. Put him in a barn, carry out a bucket of very warm water. Have someone hold the bucket while you dunk and scrub his tail. Towel dry it as best you can, and then take a hair dryer after it. It's going to be a lot of work, but it should get the job done without freezing your horse to death.
  4. Personally I wouldn't just because you'd have to bring the horse in and wash it with very warm water and blow dry it or dry it with a towel or keep him/her in untill it dries
  5. apply waterless shampoo to the tail and comb through
  6. Put him in his stall, tie him off, and get a few bucket fulls of warm water. Dunk his whole tail in the water (all the way up to the dock) and swish it around really good to get it wet and to get all the nasty stuff out of it. take his tail out and use the shampoo and srub it up like you normally would. get one of your other already ready buckets of warm water and dunk your horses tail back into the bucket of clean water and swish it around to get out as much soap as possible. repeat until all soap is gone, so be sure to have plenty of buckets ready and/or have someone filling them up again with clean water after you dirty them. then use a bucket of water and just dump it on his tail to let it run out until the water is clear, may take 1 or 2 buckets of water. then use a human hair brush (the kind that squishes down when you push on it) because it pulls out less hair and makes it very soft. then you can put in a leave in conditioner to help protect the hair from dirt sticking to it. and because it is cold so there are no flies, you can loosely braid his tail to help keep it clean and knot free. and washing a tail in winter will not freeze a horse, their tails are very tough and they don't loose much heat out of them anyways.
  7. put him in the barn and use a bucket of warm water and a wash-cloth and if you can not do that then you can do the following. Use some warm water from a sink around where you keep your horses and have two dry towels. ave the water in a bucket and dunk one of the towels into it. Use that towel to go up and down the horses tail and repeat until clean. When you are satisfied with it use the dry towel to dry the tail.
  8. Take two large buckets of warm water . Have someone hold the bucket all the way up and dip the tail in it. Use a shampoo that rinses off well. Some are so heavy , it leaves a nasty irritating residue if it doesn't get all out. Do the first rinse in the original bucket and use the second one for the last rinse. Rub it well with a couple of towels. 50 to 30' is not a death call if the tail gets wet! But, after you comb it all out and have a good conditioner on it . I like Cowboy Magic to keep it smooth and stop breakage. I would braid it loosly and put it in a tail bag to keep it clean since this is important to you. You can take it out of the tail bag when you go riding , and put it back in when you are done . My horses have awsome tails that I actueally have to trim because they get too long and drag on the ground. This works for me.
