How to keep my horses water tank clean?
I am constantly cleaning out my horses buckets and water tanks. I am wondering if there is anything that could help with keeping their water clean (green moss, algae grows) Thanks!

- Maybe get 2 of them. fill one. wash the other. Keep rotating them. Use bleach when you wash it and be sure to rince it well....
- we have a huge water troth, that we keep fish in, some of the fish eat the fungus that grows on the bottom, it stays preety clean and the horses like the fish.
- You just have to clean the tank out twice a week. Algae is going to grow in the buckets, especially since it's so hot out.
- i think your wasting time and water maybee you need to git some rough sawn lumber for the barn repair
- I always put a small amount of bleach in the tanks, and scrub them out once a week...
- well i own a horse ranch and i just clean it every day put when i do i clean it with bleach and they stay clean longer.
- a certain type of green algae should do the trick to the extent. (As far as I know, there's no toxic green algae's You'll have to do some research on the one that keeps together best and wont break up and cloud the water. there's a few types or water plants that will purify the water aswell. (Eg. lillies, seAWEED LOOKING PLANTS FOR FRESH WATER). using a combination should be a sucess and it's no maintenence on the plants themselves, and if one dies off, the others will thrive. Maybe try a type of lilly with thorns on the bottom of the leaves so the horses wont try to eat them all. Don't know what country your in but we have heaps of them in malaysia. Ciao
- clean the water tank 1time a week.wipe the gunk off their mouth when your done riding them!!!
- if you have 2 tanks or tubs, keep one clean and out in the sun to help kill the bacteria and algea, then rotate. I use one of those nylon body scrunchies to clean my tubs out and they have a string to hang them up and dry quickly.
- If you have a shady area to put it in try that. The algae blooms in sunlight the same reason fishtanks bloom by windows.
- dont put bleach in there water. i'm sure that can be very bad for them. i wash mine out everyday. i guess it's just something u have to do.
- skrub it with bleach and water evry 3 weeks
- the best thing to use is a circulating pump if that is not available try galvanized watering tanks the green moss and algae does not grow in these tanks.
- We keep goldfish in the tank. They eat the algae, and we do not have to feed them.They do not bother the horses, and they actually come up to the top when the horses come to drink. They eat the little bits of food that come off the horse's mouth after the horse eats.

- I use a bath tub and what I collect is alot of dirt and rocks because my horses like to put there hoofs in there and still up the water since I have 4 horses they drink very often so alge grows very slow but there is a 5 gallon tank that is offered on valley vet I believe it has a lid and connects to your water line. Its kinda of expensive. If you have RFDTV they advertise there 5gallon bucket there too. IF I see it again I will post it for you. Good luck..
