  1. a shetland because they are cute and you can chace then down ...lol... but not a ponie.. they are jerks and killers!!!
  2. Quarter horse, they are gentle, and they are very smart... plus they can do anything very veratile
  3. A calm breed [considered cold blooded] such as the Quarter horse or Paint.
  4. what do you want to do with it? a pet? barrels? jumpers?
  5. i agree with the person above me that u should get a cold blooded breed. i recomend to stay away from hot blooded breeds such as Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Mustangs, etc. Quarter horses sound good to me. They are gentle and very calm and subtle.
  6. an arabean or thouroughbred iv had both
  7. paints are usually gentle horses older horses are good too
  8. Go to a riding school, not a pony club,a riding school and learn the basics on how to care for and ride horses. After getting to know a variety of different horses, you will be able to determine for yourself what kind of horse would be best for you.As a guide,as a first horse I would get a retired school master,a horse that has spent a long time in a riding school dealing with beginers.Something quiet, gentle, patient and well disciplined.Nothing over the age of 15 years.
  9. breed doesnt matter, personality and training does. horses are individuals and there's no such thing as a beginner "breed". you need something older and experienced. look for something 10-15 years old, but 15 is still plenty young to have many many years of riding left! even at 20 a healthy horse has lots of life and riding left! breeds that are commonly used for beginners are quarter horses, tennessee walkers, paints, appaloosa, draft crosses, and cross breeds. TB's and arabs tend to be too hot and flighty for a beginner unless you're willing to get an older (i'm talking 20 plus years old) horse. also, stay away from saddlebreds, standardbreds, anything that's still a stallion, anything younger than 5, anything unbroke or green broke or needs finishing, or anything with a history of abuse (like from a rescue). abused horses tend to have confidence or behavioral issues and need an experienced handler. DO NOT BUY AN OFF THE TRACK TB AS A FIRST HORSE!
